Pollution on the rise

Author: Daily Times

In this on-going century, the biggest problem human beings are facing is pollution. According to statistics, the number of deaths caused by pollution in 2017 was seven times more than the war casualties. The majority of population doesn’t have clean water for drinking while water for irrigation in the different regions of the world is also hard to find.

Pakistan’s condition is not different from the other water scant countries. Urban areas of the country especially the metropolis city of the country — Karachi — is under severe threat of pollution. The people have been compelled to drink contaminated water and huge piles of garbage and rubbish can been seen at every road of the city. Diverse estimates postulate that by 2025 there will be impure air for breathing in Karachi if current intense situation can’t be normalised.

Rural areas of interior Sindh and Baluchistan have also been facing water paucity since years. Women have to travel a long distance by foot for even muddy water which their families uses for drinking and other household works.

This sorry state engenders other plethora of social malaises like the incidents of women harassment and a little time or not at all for getting education due to such tiresome and time consuming tasks.

Unconsciousness and negligence on the part of the concerned authorities have added much fuel to the already smouldering fire. There is no check and balance of the vehicles emitting massive amount of carbon and other pollutants which are extremely dangerous for climate. While deforestation by the timber mafia is never questioned by any pertinent authority. The government should strictly clamp down all such anti climatic causes and entities behind the severity of weather.
