ISLAMABAD: India’s decision to back out from dialogues in New York after initialing okaying the idea is disappointing, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Saturday.
“The solution to the on-going disputes and differences between Pakistan and India is only in dialogues. India initially agreed to hold talks in New York but then found a reason to back out which is disappointing to Pakistan’s goodwill gesture,” Qureshi told media before departing to the United States (US).
“We can only wish India to come to the negotiating table, but we can neither pressurise anybody nor will accept the same for this purpose,” Qureshi said.
FM Qureshi left for the US to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session earlier today. Speaking about the significance of the global meeting, Qureshi said that he will comprehensively present Pakistan’s stance before the world.
On Friday, Indian government called off the meeting of foreign ministers of Pakistan and India, which was scheduled in New York on the sidelines of UNGA.
The spokesperson of Indian ministry of external affair Raveesh Kumar confirmed that India has canceled the meeting between Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj and will not go forward in this regard.
