ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday granted pre-arrest bail to journalist and anchorperson Dr Shahid Masood in Pakistan Television (PTV) corruption case.
A hearing over the petition requesting pre-arrest bail of Shahid Masood was conducted at the IHC. Masood’s counsel Shah Khawar argued that the journalist’s pre-arrest bail plea was dismissed due to his absence in the particular hearing, therefore, he be granted pre-arrest bail until a final verdict is announced.
The court, after hearing the arguments, granted bail to the anchorperson.
Masood is accused of being involved in the embezzlement of Rs38 million from the state-owned television. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) says Masood, during his tenure as PTV chairman, allegedly signed an agreement with a fake company to obtain the media rights for the PCB.
The officials had said earlier the state-owned television channel suffered a huge loss because of the agreement.
