Sindh CM inaugurates int’l conference on Indus Valley civilization

LARKANA: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday called upon archaeologists to explore new ways and means of research to explore remaining undiscovered ruins of the Indus Valley civilization.

The Chief Minister stated this while inaugurating a three-day International Conference on the Indus Valley Civilization at Mohenjo Daro, Larkana. The conference is being held under the auspices of the provincial culture, tourism and archeology department. He lauded the role played by UNESCO for launching an appeal across the world to protect and preserve the site which was a universal heritage. He paid a rich tribute to Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto for organising the first ever conference on Mohenjo Daro in 1972. The CM held out an assurance that recommendations and suggestions finalised by this international conference would be implemented in letter and spirit. Shah also praised the provincial archeological and culture department for organising the conference on the Indus Valley Civilization. The UNESCO’s country director in her address said that Mohenjo Daro had been facing threats of onslaughts including flood. She said that UNESCO would continue to extend cooperation to protect the ancient site. She underlined the need of enhancing capacity of experts and establishing modern laboratory. The country director also appreciated strong commitment demonstrated by the Sindh government to protect and preserve the site. She further said that the entire world community was willing to preserve and protect all tangible and intangible heritage across the world which was a testimony to the unity in diversity.
