ECP to buy biometric machines soon

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has started preparations to buy electronic and biometric machines.

Initially, the ECP has decided to buy 200 biometric and 150 electronic machines.

A source said the process to buy the machines has commenced and tenders have been issued in this regard.

Sources added that the ECP is preparing an agreement for this purpose. According to sources, after satisfaction about the firm the process will be started and after these machines would be used in by-elections on experimental basis. Sources said that the ECP has got approval about purchasing the machines from the committee of electoral reforms.

According to sources, earlier the number of machines had been reduced due to unavailability to storage system and transportation expenditures. Sources added that the ECP recommended legislation to buy the machines as the commission feared that if this experience was not successful it would be held responsible.
