Gilgit-Baltistan governor resigns

Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan on Saturday resigned from his post, Radio Pakistan reported.

The governor forwarded his resignation to President Arif Alvi.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Ghazanfar was elected from GB-6 during general election 2015. He was appointed the sixth governor of Gilgit-Baltistan on November 20, 2015.

According to a PTI official, five candidates being considered for the high post are Hashmatullah, Jafer Shah, Dr Zaman, Afzal Shigri and Sabir Hussain.

On August 15, Malik Mohammad Rafique Rajwana resigned as the Punjab governor after serving at the post for more than three years. Following July 25 polls, Mohammad Zubair resigned as the Sindh governor.
