Rs 3.33 billion deposited in dam fund so far

An amount of Rs 3.33 billion has been deposited in a fund set up for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams, a private TV channel reported on Saturday.

Prime Minister Imran Khan in his televised address on Sep 7 had appealed to the nation, especially the overseas Pakistanis, to help country avert looming water crisis and donate for construction of new dams. Until Sep 7, an amount of Rs 1.97 billion had been collected on the initiative of Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar. However, now the total collection stands at Rs 3.33 billion. Out of the total donation received from within the country so far, amount collected through debit/credit cards stands at Rs 122 million while Rs 65.8 million were raised through SMS service, Rs 65.5 million through interbank transfer service and Rs 2.95 billion were deposited at different bank branches. The fund has been established by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on the directions of the Supreme Court.
