LAHORE: Keeping all their differences aside, all four opposition parties have finally united to seek resignation from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after his appearance before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing offshore assets of the premier and his family.

All four opposition parties in the Punjab Assembly – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Jamaat-e-Islami – Friday submitted a resolution bearing signatures of their parliamentary representatives in the Punjab Assembly Secretariat. Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed filed the resolution in the Notice Branch of the assembly’s secretariat and announced to run an anti-PM campaign after July 10. The resolution states that the prime minister – being an accused in the Panama Papers case – has brought shame to Pakistan. It says that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif must tender his resignation until the final verdict of the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case. The resolution was signed by Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed of the PTI, Faiza Ahmed Malik of the PPP, Khadija Umar Farooqi of the PML-Q and Dr Waseem Akhtar of the JI. PTI MPAs, including Mohammad Sabtain Khan, Dr Murad Rass, Muhammad Shoaib Sadiqui and Sadia Sohail Rana have also signed the resolution. Talking to the media after submitting the resolution, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed said that the joint opposition had decided to launch a campaign after July 10 press the premier to tender his resignation.
