The Central Board of Film Censors has not cleared Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Manmarziyan’ for release in Pakistan, CBFC Chairman Danyal Gilani confirmed to media. According to a local publication, Manmarziyaan is a romantic comedy starring Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal. Set in Punjab, it follows a young couple, Rumi (Taapsee) and Vicky (played by Vicky), as they are caught getting intimate and then pressurised to get married by Rumi’s family. When Vicky fails to bring his parents over for an official proposal, a banker named Robbie (Abhishek) enters the picture as a suitor for Rumi. The film sees how this love triangle resolves itself. Without elaborating on the reasons for not approving the film for release, Gilani shared that “[CBFC’s] members unanimously considered [the film’s] contents to be in violation of [the] censorship code”. After a world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, Manmarziyaan released in India, USA and Australia yesterday on September 14.
