Bids to smuggle gold, drugs foiled

The administration foiled an attempt to smuggle 814.05 grams of gold from Pakistan to Afghanistan at the Torkham border on Friday.

The Torkham Tehsildar Shakeel Barki told the media that the Khasadar force stopped an Afghanistan-bound pedestrian for checking. During examination, different kinds of ornaments made of 814.05 grams of gold were recovered from his body.

The gold was took into custody by the Khasadar force and the alleged gold smuggler, identified as Shams-ul-Haq and an Afghan citizen, was apprehended and sent to the Landi Kotal prison for further investigation, the official told.

In a separate event, an attempt to smuggle ICE (drug) from Afghanistan to Pakistan was failed at the Torkham border when the Khasadar force recovered two kilograms of ICE from the luggage of an Afghani woman.

The accused woman and the pushcart owner were arrested for further investigation, the official told.
