ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar on Wednesday issued a ‘final warning’ to opponents of Diamer-Bhasha and other dams.

While hearing a case regarding the Dodocha dam, the CJP, in a possible reference to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah, said that those who are advising him to make a political party must stop playing politics.

“We are issuing a final warning to opponents of dams. Those who ask me to enter politics must stop playing politics. The cases regarding dams are not political ones, rather of public welfare and those who aim to defame the SC won’t be spared,” the chief justice said.

On Tuesday, Khursheed had said Justice Nisar should launch his political party and enter politics, adding that empty slogans and speeches won’t solve the country’s problems.

During the hearing, the CJP also directed the Punjab government representatives to issue a deadline over the construction of the Dodocha dam. “Punjab CM must brief us regarding the construction of the dam. Should we summon him too?”

The hearing was adjourned till September 26.
