LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has warned government officers to change their attitude as norms have changed now and therefore, the government officers and other employees should also mend their ways.

The government employees should perform their duties while considering themselves as servant to the people and chit system for meeting the officers should be done away with immediately. The officers should conspicuously display their public meeting hours outside the offices prominently. They should also ensure their attendance in the offices and timings should strictly be followed. The doors of the offices should remain open for the citizens, he added and further warned that any leniency or delay will not be tolerated at any cost.

He issued these directions on the occasion of his surprise visit to the offices of police and administrative officers at district courts on Monday.

The Punjab chief minister expressed his strong indignation over absence of Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Dr Umar Jehangir, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mian Behzad Adil, City Assistant Commissioner Naeem Afzal, Saddar AC Umar Iftikhar Sherazi, registry registrar, superintendent and other administrative officers and staff members. He said that no leniency on part of government officers and staff will be tolerated in discharging of duties. The sole female officer ADC Rawalpindi Maliha Jamal who was present on duty briefed the Punjab CM. On the inquiry of CM, she informed that officers are away from their offices for the monitoring of anti-dengue campaign. Various citizens showed their surprise over the presence of CM amongst them and briefed him about their problems. They said a real change is visible after the advent of new government.

One overseas Pakistani Raja Amjad Iqbal complained to the CM that he wanted to invest in the country but no one is guiding him on how to do that. He is disappointed now as some officers remained absent from their seats. The CM directed the DC to immediately solve the issue of the said citizen. Raja Amjad Iqbal announced to donate $5,000 in the Prime Minister’s Dams’ Fund as a gesture of happiness. The CM also sought the report in one hour about the solution of the problem of a woman belonging to Balochistan.

Punjab CM Sardar Usman Buzdar listened to her problems and directed for immediate action for retrieval of her property. She said that her property was in possession of an influential person and she has been visiting government offices for a long time but to no avail. Sardar Usman Buzdar directed to provide her justice.

Various citizens expressed their sentiments and said that visit of CM to government offices is a self-evident proof of commitment by the government. They appealed that the CM should bound the officers to remain available in their offices so that public problems could be timely redressed. The CM assured them that the government was utilising all-out energy and resources for early solution of citizens’ problems adding that people will soon perceive a change around them.

The CM also visited the offices of commissioner and City Police Officer Rawalpindi. The CPO was absent from his seat. Usman Buzdar also met with the divisional administration, police officers and ulema belonging to different schools of thought who came to attend the peace committee meeting with regard to Muharram at the commissioner’s office. The CM directed the administration and police officers to remove unnecessary barriers from their offices. He said that officers should take necessary steps for the solution of problems of the people after consultation with public representatives so that the common man could benefit from welfare-oriented steps of the government.

“I know the difficulties faced by the people and the officers and staff failing to make it to their offices in time will face disciplinary action,” he said. The CM also checked the attendance of officers and officials during this surprise inspection

Soon after his return from Rawalpindi, Buzdar inspected the excise and taxation service centre in DHA without any protocol.

The citizens were surprised to see the CM who went there without protocol and inspected different sections of the centre. Various people apprised him about problems relating to transfer of vehicles. The CM issued directions for early solution of their problems.

“I shall not sit idle until the provision of facilities to the citizens in the offices is ensured,” he said adding that vehicles’ record should be under one roof so that citizens may not have to visit the offices again and again.
