Anti-Corruption dept arrests three govt officers for corruption in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: The Anti-Corruption Establishment’s (ACE) branch in Gujranwala on Sunday arrested three government officers for their alleged involvement in corruption and misuse of authority cases.

Reportedly, ACE regional director Sheikh Fareed informed the media that a citizen Muhammad Azher filed an application accusing Nandipur town finance officer Fayyaz Ahmed of committing massive corruption and embezzlement in town funds.

Initial investigation suggested sufficient evidence against the suspect and other officers including Muhammad Ali, accountant Naeem Mansoor, junior clerk Muhammad Shahbaz, Naib Qasid Hassan Raza and Naib Qasid Zohaib Saleem.

They had issued bogus death and birth certificates which had caused loss of over Rs three million to the government exchequer. Meanwhile, ACE’s team arrested Muhammad Ali, Naeem Mansoor and Zohaib Saleem while raids were being conducted to arrest others. The ACE has also proceeded with the corruption allegations against NADRA supervisor Asif Hameed.

Man set himself on fire over trivial issue

A man set himself on fire on Sunday allegedly over a domestic issue in Kamoki town of Gujranwala. Reportedly, Asad, a resident of Kali Soba, quarreled with his wife and got disheartened. Resultantly, he poured petrol and set himself on fire. He was rushed to the DHQ Hospital where doctors recommended shifting him to Lahore due to his critical condition.

People protest against district administration for not fixing water plant

Scores of residents of Kot Ishaq area staged a demonstration on Sunday against the district administration over nonfunctioning of a water filtration plant. The protesters alleged that a water filtration plant was closed due to pipe leakage for the last several days and they have been deprived of potable water. They claimed that the district administration has not taken any action to fix the filtration plant. They appealed to the deputy commissioner to take notice of the matter, and resolve the issue on the priority basis.
