ISLAMABAD: Police have failed to net any big fish during ongoing operation against the drug addicts, pushers and drug peddlers in educational institutions in federal capital and only 51 people have been nabbed so far despite tall claims of federal police.

Police have failed to ascertain any big name of drug mafia from the arrested persons during interrogation.

Arrested student of Iqra University, Walid Shamim has made disclosures to police about sale and use of drugs in educational institutions in Islamabad.

He told the police that during his private visit to Holland he purchased 350 pills which were to be sold to the students at Iqra University. The use of drugs is at its height in the educational institutions in federal capital. His disclosures have caused grave concern and embarrassment among the law enforcement agencies and administration of federal educational institutions.

Police caught Walid red handed during operation and took the pills which were to be sold out among the university students into their custody.

At least 51 people have been arrested so far during ongoing operation against druggists and drug peddlers in educational institutions. 10 among them are students from different universities.

About 40973 liquor bottles, 300 litres liquor, 1415 gram imported hashish, 415 gram heroin and 350 pills have been seized from the arrested persons. But police have not succeeded in obtaining any information from any arrested person about any big name among drug peddlers.

Against the arrested 51 persons 8 cases have been registered in Shalimar police station, 14 in Ramna police station and 3 in Margalla police station. Most of the arrested persons have been released on bail or sent to jail on judicial remand due to weak challans presented by the police

SSP Capt (Retd) Zeeshan Haider has told daily times that police can not interfere in judicial powers. The courts prefer to grant judicial remand instead of physical remand in the cases which are registered against the students, women and children. Due to which we have to face difficulties during the process of investigation.

He further stated the 51 suspects have been held on the information of their accomplices however police have failed to apprehend any ring leader or bust any organized gang.
