SBBBU vice chancellor a frontman of Zardari: Magsi

Author: Abbas Kassar

HYDERABAD: Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party Chairman, Dr Qadir Magsi, expressed his dissatisfaction by saying that Farzana Jamali, the harassment victim and final year student at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU) Nawabshah, could not get justice in her case as the vice chancellor of university was the front man of former President Asif Ali Zardari and the committee formed by the Sindh Chief Minister to probe into the incident of harassment was nothing more than eye wash.

Addressing his party workers at Shahdadpur, the nationalist leader, who himself was a candidate against Zardari from Nawabshah, asked how one could get justice in this country where alcohol was termed as honey.

Quoting slow process of money laundering and other cases against Zardari, he termed it as selective justice. He said that the establishment arranged the PPP’s big-margin win of 94 seats in Sindh under a deal with Zardari. He said that even Shaheed Benazir Bhutto could not win such big number of seats. He termed the last elections as fraud.

Magsi further said that the PPP had committed corruption of more than Rs 20 billion in its last ten years of government in Sindh. He also opposed the construction of any dam on the River Indus adding that Sindh was already facing acute shortage of water. Many districts were declared drought-hit and in such a situation if dams were constructed by force, Sindh lands would turn barren, he added.

Uzma Jokhyo elected new president of LHW union

Dr Uzma Jokhyo has been elected as the new president of All Sindh Lady Health Workers (LHW) Union Hyderabad chapter with heavy majority on Friday.

The election was held at the District Headquarters Office (DHO) after the retirement of Rukhsana Mughal between the Haleema Zulqarnain Leghari and Bushra Arain Panels. 48 health workers cast their votes out of which Uzma Jokhayo won the elections by getting 35 votes while her rival Saeeda Shaheen got only 13 votes. After winning the election, Jokhyo was garlanded with Ajrak and flowers by Haleema Legari, the president All Sindh Lady Health Workers Union. Addressing the meeting, Haleema Leghari said that our success was the proof of the fact that we had always played politics of principles for getting our rights.

Talking to media, Uzma Jokhyo deplored that despite the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2012 about the regularization of service of LHW, the government did not issue them the identification number, due to which they were deprived of their salaries for 3-3 months each time. She said that the LHW were facing many challenges and problems during the anti-polio drives because of the lack of security. She said that she would try to get the issues and problems of LHW resolved through dialogue with concerned officers in future. On this occasion, Talat Naz, Nabeela, Raheela Shaikh, Fatima Shah and Seema Sahar also addressed the meeting.
