SALU observes one-minute silence in memory of heroes on Defense Day

KHAIRPUR: The Shah Abdul Latif University’s (SALU) department of Computer Science on Thursday celebrated the Defense Day to honour heroic martyrs of Pakistan at Allama II Kazi Hall of the university.

Reportedly, students, faculty members and administration officers participated in the event with zeal and fervour, and paid rich tributes to martyrs.

Meanwhile, Fatiha was offered for the national heroes for sacrificing their lives to protect the homeland with courage on Sept 6 in 1965.

They stood on their seats and observed a one-minute silence in the honour and memory of all martyrs.

Computer Science department’s head Prof Dr Ghulam Ali Mallah emphasised on the importance of the day, and said “we must salute martyrs for their unforgettable sacrifice and contribution in defending the beloved country.”

He said that students and youths must acquire knowledge of advanced and emerging technologies to benefit institution of Pakistan for its defense and prosperity.

Faculty members including Prof Dr Noor Ahmed Shaikh, Prof Dr Samina Rajpar, Dr Hidayatullah Shaikh, Dr Rafaqat Arain, Dr Riaz Shaikh, Asadullah Kehar and a large number of students participated in the event.

Meanwhile, another programme with the theme ‘Defense Day of Pakistan’ was organised by the department of Pakistan studies at the SALU’s campus in Khairpur.

SALU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (PVC) Prof Dr Yousuf Khushk was also present on the occasion.

The students staged speech, poster, tableaus and national songs competitions, and paid great homage to the national heroes.

Likewise, the Shaheed Zulifqar Ali Bhutto School of Law planted saplings in the honour of Pakistan Armed Forces.

Faculty of Social Sciences Dean Prof Dr Imdad Hussain Sahito, Prof Dr Noor Ahmed Shaikh, Prof Inayatullah Bhatti and Manzoor Ahmed Larik participated in the events as the guests of honour and highlighted significance of the day.

Besides, a large number of students, scholars, faculty members and university officials were present on the occasion.

SALU to probe into alleged sexual harassment of law student

SALU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Parveen Shah on Thursday constituted a fact finding committee to probe into an alleged sexual harassment of a student on the reports of newspapers.

Reportedly, SALU PVC Prof Dr Yousaf Khushk will head the three-member committee to collect findings of the incident and subsequently forward them to the VC for an appropriate action.

Earlier, a student of SALU Naushahro Feroze Law College lodged an FIR (first information report) of sexual harassment against the principal of the college Badul Zaman Kamboh, who is on an interim bail.
