Defence Day celebrated with zeal in Gujranwala

The Defence Day on Thursday was celebrated with traditional zeal and fervour in Gujranwala.

Reportedly, the day began with special prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan, and in this regard various programmes were organised.

The main event was held at the Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School where wife of Punjab governor Parveen Sarwar participated as the chief guest.

Besides, Commissioner Asadullah Faiz and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shoaib Tariq Warriach were also present on the occasion.

Another event was held in Cantt area of Gujranwala where Gujranwala Station Commander Brigadier Javed Hussein Baloch spoke to the participants.

The speakers paid great homage to martyrs who laid down their lives for the defence of the homeland.

“Martyrs impart life to the nation, and we can only defeat enemy forces with strict adherence to the principles of unity, faith and discipline as put forth by the father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah,” they said.

Later, the Station Commander laid a floral wreath on the graves of martyrs and Parveen Sarwar planted a sapling to honour them.

Hundreds of students participated in the rallies and chanted slogans in favour of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

Anti-Corruption dept arrests two persons over fraud and corruption cases

The Anti-Corruption Establishment’s (ACE) branch in Gujranwala on Thursday arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in fraud and corruption cases.

Reportedly, a citizen Muhammad Nawaz filed an application with the ACE accusing an official of education department Muhammad Tariq of taking bribe of Rs 150,000 from him for recruiting his daughter on the post of teacher in the department.

Meanwhile, another citizen Momna Javed accused a suspected member of a land mafia gang Muhammad Tufail of transferring ownership of her property in his name by a bogus transfer deed.

The initial investigations suggested sufficient evidence against the accused, and consequently ACE teams arrested Muhammad Tariq and Muhammad Tufail during raids.
