Author: Staff Report

Acting Punjab Governor Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that lawyers’ community role in promotion of democratic traditions is quite appreciable, for ensuring provision of justice to the common man, particularly to the poor segment.

He said this while talking to a 30-member lawyers’ delegation which called on him at the Governor’s House on Wednesday. The delegation was headed by Insaaf Lawyers Wing Punjab President Umair Niazi and former Lahore High Court Bar Association secretary Amir Saeed Raan. The delegation included Muhammad Ali, Anees Hashmi, Imran Pasha, Kashif Munir, Khaqan Mir, Aftar Ali and Rai Khurram among other lawyers.

The lawyers’ delegation felicitated Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on being elected as Punjab Assembly speaker and presented him with a bouquet. Pervaiz Elahi said that lawyers’ role in supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law is of key importance. The institutions performance graph has come down in the last 10 years and problems of the people have increased. He said that the problems of the people will be solved in preferential basis and merit will be ensured in government institutions so that capable persons come to the fore.

“We will have to work together for increasing performance of the institutions,” he said adding that we have always done politics of service.

The lawyers assured him of their full cooperation in accomplishing government policies. They also praised the establishment of Rescue 1122 and welfare projects like provision of free medicines to the patients.
