“The loss will stuck in my mind forever”, says Thiem

Dominic Thiem who had a match of his life with Rafael Nadal said that “It’s going to be stuck in my mind forever.”

The Austrian was up against the world no. 1 Rafael Nadal in the quarter finals of US Open. The match turned out to be a nail bitter after Thiem was all over the Spaniard in the first set with resulted 6-nil in favor of Thiem. But then Nadal showed everyone that why he is the world no. 1.

The match lasted for almost for five hours and Nadal stole it on the tie break of the fifth set. Nadal jumped off the nets to hug Thiem who was quite devastated on the result which was understandable keeping in mind how dominated the first set was by Thiem.

Later on in the press conference, he said that this loss is going to last in his mind forever.

“It’s going to be stuck in my mind forever. Forever I’m going to remember this match, for sure.

“Tennis is cruel sometimes because I think this match didn’t really deserve a loser. But there has to be one.

“It ended up in the fifth set tie-breaker there it’s 50/50. He made one more point than me.”

Things got quite emotional after the match and Nadal immediately went across the nets to hug Thiem because of the brilliant Tennis displayed by him throughout the match.

Nadal in his press conference revealed that he even said ‘sorry’ to Thiem. When Thiem was asked about it he said “I don’t really think he’s really sorry.”

Thiem had some good matches with Nadal in past but he is yet to find a way to get pass him.

“I mean, he’s a great guy. I don’t want to lose against anybody. But now I wish him the title the most, that’s for sure.

“I think we almost all the time have great matches. I hope that we have many more in future – with a different end.” He further added.
