PPP requests BNP to back Aitzaz for presidency

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) delegation consisting of senior party leaders met Balochistan National Party (Mengal) chief Akhtar Mengal on Saturday and requested him to support presidency candidate Aitzaz Ahsan.

PPP delegation consisted of senior leaders including presidency candidate Aitzaz Ahsan, senator Sherry Rehman, secretary general Nayyar Bukhari and spokesperson Chaudhry Manzoor.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Akhtar Mengal said that leaders from various political parties have called upon BNP, but the party will only make a decision that will strengthen the federal system.

On the other hand, Aitzaz Ahsan said that the delegation, in its meeting with Mengal, pondered over various matters concerning Balochistan including China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the case of missing persons.

He added that talks with Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman are ongoing and that a positive outcome is expected.
