NUST organises Tree Plantation activity at its campus

The National University of Science & Technology (NUST) has organised a Tree Plantation Activity at its main campus in sector H-12, Islamabad.

This campaign is part of the ongoing Green Pakistan programme. The purpose of the programme is to encourage students to plant trees for creating awareness about the benefits of forests and to increase forests cover in big cities of Pakistan. The plantation of around 1,000 trees will go a long way in making NUST’s environment friendly and held it in becoming a carbon neutral university. The selection of trees for plantation at NUST is limited to natural and fruit trees including, Olive Tree, Cassia Fistula known as Golden Shower Tree, Guava Tree and Pomegranate Tree. Being a premier national university, NUST has aligned its green efforts with the government’s policy to overcome environmental pollution and has been striving to play its part in raising awareness among the masses through various initiatives. Keeping in view its efforts towards becoming an environment friendly university, NUST intends participating in Indonesian UI Green Metric University Rankings this year. The ranking provides the result of an online survey regarding the current condition and policies related to green campus and sustainability in the universities all over the world. .

Speaking on the occasion, NUST Planning & Resource Pro Rector Major General (r) Jahangir Khan said that students should realise their responsibility and participate in tree plantation drives so that “we plant as many plants we can”.

He said that there is a dire need for measures to control environmental pollution and protect human lives, adding that trees play an important role in eliminating environmental pollution.
