Imran Ismail sworn in as Sindh governor

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Ismail was sworn in as 33rd governor of Sindh province on Monday.

Sindh High Court Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh administered oath to the governor at the Governor’s House in Karachi. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, provincial cabinet members, legislators belonging to PTI, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan(MQM-P) and the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) besides ambassadors and other notables.

Before taking the oath, Ismail resigned from his assembly seat. Khurran Sher Zaman submitted his resignation to the speaker of Sindh Assembly Monday morning. He had won the provincial election from Karachi’s PS-111, beating Murtaza Wahab of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Ismail has already declared that he will not reside at the Governor’s House and prefer to stay at his own house.

The newly appointed governor has thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan for entrusting him with the responsibility and pledged to play the role of a bridge between federal and the provincial government for the betterment of the people of the province.

Imran Ismail was born on January 1, 1966, in Karachi and is a businessman-turned-politician. He is also one of the founding members of the PTI.
