Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Arif Alvi, Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Aitzaz Ahsan and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) supremo Maulana Fazlur Rahman have submitted their nomination papers for the presidency.
The deadline to submit the nomination papers ended today at 12pm.
Aitzaz Ahsan and Maulana Fazlur Rahman submitted their nomination papers in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) today.
PTI’s senior leader Dr Arif Alvi has also filed his nomination papers in the Sindh High Court (SHC).
The grand alliance of opposition parties except PPP decided to put forward the name of Fazlur Rahman for the post.
Previously, a meeting was arranged by the grand opposition leaders in Murree on Saturday in order to decide on a joint candidate in this regard.
However, they failed to reach a consensus as Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz (PML-N) raised objections against Aitzaz.
The elections for upcoming president are expected to be held on September 4.
