Islamabad: The grand opposition alliance except Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Monday decided to nominate Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman for the president-ship.

Fazlur Rahman will submit his nomination papers in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) today.

On the other hand, PPP presidential candidate Aitzaz Ahsan also submitted his nomination papers at the IHC.

Previously, a meeting was arranged by the grand opposition leaders in Murree on Saturday in order to decide on a joint candidate for the president’s post.

However, they failed to reach a consensus on a joint candidate as Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz (PML-N) raised objections against the PPP’s candidate.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has named Dr Arif Alvi as its candidate for the upcoming presidential election which will be held on September 4.
