Rs 172.53m spent on repair of Parliament Lodges, Senate told

ISLAMABAD: The Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that an amount of Rs 172.536 million was incurred on the repair and maintenance works of Parliament Lodges during the fiscal year 2015-16.

In a written reply to the upper house of the parliament, the minister said that tenders were invited for awarding the contracts or works of the parliament lodges in 2015-16.

He said that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) had issued licences for installation of 567 communication towers of various mobile companies in the federal capital.

Out of these towers, 166 are located on public land and 401 on private land.

He said that the Capital Development Authority licence fee for public land was Rs 150,000 per tower each year with 5 percent escalation every year and for private land it was Rs 50,000 per tower each year with 5 percent escalation every year.

He said that a park and ride facility was available near the Metro Bus Stations within Islamabad and proper taxi stands had not been developed and apparently was not under consideration by the Capital Development Authority.

He said that the Federal Directorate of Education, Islamabad had launched a comprehensive teachers training programme under the Prime Minister’s Education Reform Programme (PMERP) to enhance the standard of education in educational institutions of Islamabad through capacity building of the teachers.

In the first phase, all the teachers and head teachers of 22 selected schools were trained during December, 2015 to March, 2016, the minister added.

In the next phase commencing from January 20, 2017 teachers of all the remaining educational institutions will be trained.

He said that the teachers were being trained in the areas of English language, development and teaching of math, science, English geography and history.

However, head teachers were being trained in the field of leadership and management.
