Sir: This is an apropos to the letter published on August 16 called ‘Motorbike Accidents’. A similar event took place to my close acquaintance causing the loss of life, which left us all in deep sorrow.

I have noticed that at every traffic signal, the motorbikes and rickshaws are always stationed almost ten steps ahead of the designated line, taking undue advantage of being the “mini vehicles” or claiming that they are in “hurry” causing traffic congestion and haphazardness. The other thing I noticed is that motorbike riders also often use footpaths to get out of the traffic jams as well, thus causing problem for the pedestrians using them.

I’d like to address a few preventive measures that need to be taken into consideration very seriously. Cheaper yet proper transport facilities should be provided to the public, reducing such accidents, while heavy fines should be imposed when dumpers or trolleys are seen on roads before 12 am. Due to heavy traffic population in Karachi, it is really important to provide basic and proper traffic rules to the public, either using social media or television advertisements. Most importantly, proper traffic discipline needs to be followed by everybody, regardless of their background or vehicle being used.
