Sir: Voters and supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) started celebrations outside parliament house and in other parts of the country soon after Imran Khan was elected the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan on Friday.

As the National Assembly saw former cricket legend and PTI chief Imran Khan elected as country’s 22nd prime minister, the workers and supporters danced on the federal capital Islamabad’s roads. Similar scenes were witnessed in other parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakthunkwa where local party leaders distributed sweets among workers and supporters. In Karachi, PTI MPA Haleem Adil Sheikh distributed sweets while another MPA had workers dancing on party tunes near governor house.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief received 176 votes during the election for 22nd prime minister of the country, against PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif’s 96 votes during the National Assembly session today. Imran Khan, clad in a waistcoat and traditional white shalwar kameez garments, smiled broadly and could be seen wiping tears from his eyes while clutching prayer beads as the count was announced.

Soon after being elected prime minister the PTI chief did a short speech in which he vowed to fulfil all his election promises in order to put the country on path of development of reform as envisioned by founder Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. After the session, the 65-year-old cricketer-turned-politician went to his chambers in parliament and offered Shukranay K Nawafil (prayers of gratitude).
