Pasban-e-Pakistan (PP) President Altaf Shakoor had challenged the Sindh Universities Amendment Bill 2018 through a constitutional petition. A two-member bench consisting of Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry heard the petition in which Altaf Shakoor had prayed to declare the Sindh Universities Amendment Act null and void.
During the hearing, the government lawyer complained that they had not received the copy of the petition. However, Advocate Irfan Aziz, the lawyer of petitioner claimed that they had handed over a copy of the petition to the government lawyer in court.
Concluding the hearing, the SHC directed the respondents to submit their detailed reply by September 5.
The petitioner submitted that the law was passed with a malafide intention. According to Altaf Shakoor, the petitioner, the Sindh Universities Amendment Bill 2018 would close doors of education to students of urban areas of Sindh.
After the passage of the act, the government universities would have to reserve eight to ten seats in their syndicates for government representatives.
