Sir: Here we go again. A banking court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, along with 15 others accused in the same case. However, Zardari’s attorney Farooq H Naek has denied this has happened. Just a few months after PML-N Chief and former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has been thrown in jail, another member of our political elite seems to be close to getting caught by the long arm of the law.
Don’t get me wrong, accountability is important, especially for the Zardaris and Sharifs of our country, but justice should also be blind. The case against Zardari must be pursued with according to the norms of any properly functioning justice system. The judiciary must be very careful about how it conducts itself lest another uproar is created in the country about the judiciary acting at the behest of other institutions. Hopefully justice will prevail.
