Sehwan Blast: PRCS emergency response teams ‘were the first to help’

KARACHI: Responding to the suicide bombing at Lal Shahbaz Qalandar Shrine at Sehwan Sharif on Thursday, the Pakistan Red Crescent (PRC) emergency response teams – including volunteers and staff of its District Red Crescent Branch Jamshoro- rushed to the scene and shifted dead bodies and injured to the hospitals.

At least 83 devotees have been killed and over 300 injured in a suicide bombing. Around 49 men, 13 women and at least 20 children are believed to be among the dead.

PRC response teams were the first on the scene and over 50 trained volunteers with three ambulances took part in rescue operation, says a press release. More than 200 victims were shifted or provided support by the volunteers and provided first aid to more than 60 injured.

Red Crescent teams – including CBHFA volunteers, CDRTs and DDRTs – gatheredin large number within half an hour with their emergency kits and they took part in providing first aid, controlling mob, shifting bodies to hospital and provided medicine as well. The resorting family link officers at Hyderabad, Sehwan and Karachi helped and guided the families of the dead and injured.

Red Crescent Emergency Response teams collected the parts of the bodies and placed them properly in the hospital with the other emergency responders. One dead body was also shifted in PRC ambulance to Karachi.

Sindh PRC Chairperson Farzhana Naek, management committee, staff and volunteers have condemned the blast at Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’s shrine in Sehwan and expressed heartfelt grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives.

Naek said that she was shocked and saddened on the terrorist attack which targeted innocent people including women and children.

They prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the souls of martyred in eternal peace and sympathized with bereaved families and also prayed for early recovery of the injured.
