Security of religious places in northern Sindh tightened

SHIKARPUR: The businessmen and notables of Shikarpur strongly condemned the massacre incident at the Dargah of spiritual leader Qalandar Lal Shahbaz, during a Dhamal at Sehwan Sharif and shutdown their businesses to express solidarity with victims of the Sehwan massacre and termed it a security lapse, here on Friday.

Security measures have been tightened around Masjids, Imambargahs, and other sensitive areas to be prepared against any untoward incident.

The dead body of a man identified as Ghulam Akbar Agani, aged around 35, resident of Khanpur town of district Shikarpur, reached Khanpur for burial formalities, who had gone to Sehwan Sharif for Ziyarat, while four other persons of the Jaffari community, whose identification could not be ascertained, sustained serious wounds in the blast, who belonged to the outskirts of Shikarpur district, said police. Security measures have been tightened when the body of martyred youth Ghulam Akbar Agani reached Khanpur. The residents of Khanpur blocked the Indus highway and voiced their protest against the bomb blast incident at Sehwan Sharif.

The District Bar Association [DBA] Shikarpur observed a full day strike over the great human loss and adjourned thier hearings.

Former MNA Dr Muhammad Ibrahim Jatoi, Dhani Bux Memon, the leader of the Chamber of Commerce Shikarpur, Advocate Zahid Pahore, Ali Asghar Pahore, the Chairman Shikarpur Bachayo Tehreek, Zahid Bhanbhro, Naveed Alam Abro, Sultan Rind, the former president of the Press Club Shikarpur, Waheed Phulpoto, the senior journalist, and other notable of the city strongly condemned the massacre incident and termed it a security lapse.

Talking to Daily Times, newly posted SSP Shikarpur Zeeshan Siddique said that Shikarpur police have started a combing operation against terrorists elements and their facilitators and claimed to have arrested two dozen suspects from Sultankot and Khanpur area and investigations of the arrested suspected are underway and all the concerned officers are directed to keep vigilant eye on terrorist elements and in this regard all the necessary measures have been taken, SSP said. Separately, a combing operation has been initiated against terrorist elements and in this regard five dozen, according to sources, have been arrested; We tried contacting SSP Jacobabad Sajjad Khokhar about his version but were unable to make contact with him.
