ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to summon former principal secretary to ex-PM Yousaf Raza Gilani to probe Saindak corruption, source told Daily Times.
NAB wants to grill Nargis Sethi to ascertain her role in the scam which has caused a huge financial loss to the national exchequer, sources added.
NAB has started investigation into the corruption and appointment of Managing Director (MD) of this project.
Saindak is a gold mine project situated in restive Balochistan and is a bone of contention between the federal government and provincial government as the former has refused to hand over it to the latter.
Yousuf Raza Gilani is co-accused in the scam and NAB has already recorded his statement regarding the appointment of Sanjrani as the project’s MD. Sources said Nargis Sethi allegedly issued the order of Sanjrani’s appointment.
NAB sources said she had misused her powers to appoint a person who did not fulfill the qualification laid down in the rules for the post.
NAB has decided to give her an opportunity to explain her position in this regard. Her statement would be perused later to decide her role in the scam, sources said.
NAB authorities said the investigation made so far proves that Sanjrani did not fulfill the criteria laid down for the appointment therefore he would be declared major accused in the case. Sethi’s fate can be decided after her explanation.
Sources added that Gilani had allegedly accused Nargis for appointing Sanjrani.
Nargis was considered the most powerful officer during Gilani’s regime as she was close to the premier and she enjoyed unbridled powers.
Sources said investigation is going in the right direction which can put Nargis in a difficult situation.
