Accountability for all

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Accountability in Pakistan is nothing more than the political victimisation of the opponents and targeting the weaker segments of society. For the privileged class, it is just a buzz word that finds its place only in the books of law and political diatribes.

Most of the times, the accountability of the members of a particular political party is witnessed, while the members of other parties with the same or even more heinous charges go scot free. Apart from these groups that are occasionally held accountable, there is also another class that is totally exempted from accountability of any sort.

The existence of such prejudiced approach in accountability is the worst form of political victimisation. However, the true spirit of accountability is quite contrasting and based on impartiality. Therefore, the need of the hour is to provide justice and hold everyone accountable for its misdeeds, regardless of the fact that they might be a politician, a member of the armed forces or a bureaucrat.
