Courtois’ move to Real Madrid ‘hurt’ ex-teammate

Former Atletico Madrid captain and former teammate of Thibaut Courtois, Gabi Hernandez, on Tuesday said that he has been ‘hurt’ by the former Atletico shotstopper’s decision to join arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Gabi, who now plays for Al Sadd, said: “It hurts. He has played with you, won trophies, it’s a strange one. That’s it, more than it hurts, it’s strange.”

Earlier this week, Courtois signed for Atletico’s rivals Real Madrid from Chelsea for £35 million. The goal-keeper had said that he has always been a fan of Madrid as a child and that the move is a ‘dream come true’.

It is obvious that Atleti fans are disappointed over the move as it is considered ‘criminal’ to play for a rival club when the stakes are so high.
