Gladiators overwhelm Qalandars by five wickets in thrilling encounter

SHARJAH: Quetta Gladiators outplayed Lahore Qalandars by five wickets in a thrilling fixture of the second edition of the Pakistan Super League at Sharjah Stadium here Saturday. Chasing a formidable target of 201 set by Lahore, Quetta kept losing wickets at regular intervals in the first half of their innings. However, Kevin Pietersen and skipper Sarfraz Ahmed steadied their ship. Pietersen hammered unbeaten 88 off 42 balls and turned the match around while Sarfraz contributed with 45 runs off 25 balls to set the course for victory.

Earlier, Qalandars scored 200 for the loss of three wickets, with Jason Roy, Fakhar Zaman and Rizwan doing the bulk of scoring. Fakhar and Jason opened the batting and managed to put 77 runs on board for the first wicket partnership. Jason was the first to depart. He scored 51 off 27 balls before being bowled by Hassan Khan in the seventh over. Fakhar scored 47 off 31 balls before Zulfiqar Babar got him caught at deep midwicket. Mohammad Rizwan remained unbeaten on 46 while Cameron Delport was also not out on 35 off 21 balls.
