The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday ordered a re-poll in PK-23 Shangla I over lower than mandated turn out of voters.
In a statement, the ECP said that the poll result had been declared void because the number of women votes polled was less than the mandatory 10 percent requirement. According to the preliminary results, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Shaukat Yousafzai emerged victorious in the constituency in the July 25 polls.
The ECP electoral rolls show that 86,698 women are registered to vote in the constituency. However, only 3,505 women cast their ballots on the polling day.
