KARACHI: Four Regional Blood Transfusion Centers (RBTC) in four districts of Sindh would be inaugurated next month, Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA) announced on Saturday.
These centers would be established in Karachi, Jamshoro, Nawabshah and Sukkur.
According to officials, blood processing, screening, testing, component preparation and storage facilities will be ensured in these blood banks.
“German Development Bank has assisted in establishing this project under public private partnership that had been completed with the cost of 100 million Euros,” Dr Zahid Hasan Ansari SBTA said.
The storage capacity of 50,000 blood bags in each regional blood bank and around 200,000 blood bags can be stored once a time in blood banks once made operational.
“RBTCs will be inaugurated by the end of March 2017,” Dr Ansari said while adding that the same number of more blood banks will also be upgraded and will complete in two years.
He said four more blood banks of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Civil Hospital Karachi, Sindh Government Korangi Hospital and Chandka Medical Center of Larkana will be upgraded with financial assistance of German Government in second phase.
