KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Saturday suspended gas supply to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) over default of payment, it was learned on Saturday.
Due to the non-supply of gas, patients care in the public sector tertiary care hospital was affected increasing the miseries of patients.
According to Dr Nadeem Ahmed Rajput, Medical Superintend Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the gas supply to the institution had been suspended by SSGC over default of Rs 21.919 million in payments.
“Dozens of scheduled surgeries were also suspended while functioning of emergency, gynecology, ortho and other departments were also disturbed due to gas unavailability,” Dr Rajput added.
He said that sterilization of medical instruments and boiler also stopped functioning due to gas unavailability.
He said that the operations in the emergency and operation theater department will also remain suspended till restoration of gas supply to the facility.
He said that the administration was using LPG cylinder to carry out surgeries in Emergency Department and requested GM Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to restore gas supply to the hospital on humanitarian ground so that patient care do not disturb in the facility.
