ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has nominated former Khyber PakhtunKhwa (KP) Assembly speaker Asad Qaisar as its candidate for the slot of the National Assembly speaker.
Party’s vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi made this announcement during a media briefing outside PTI chairman Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence in Islamabad.
“Qaisar is familiar with all parliamentary practices and has good working relations with all parties,” said the vice chairman.
Qaisar has served as the speaker of the KP assembly in the PTI’s previous tenure in the province. He won NA-18 (Swabi-I) in the recently held general elections.

Qureshi also announced that Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar would be Governor Punjab. “He has served as the governor Punjab and is well aware of the constitutional requirements of the post,” said Qureshi, adding that ‘we want to drive the benefit from his experience’.
Sarwar, the former member of the British parliament, has served as Governor Punjab from August 2013 to January 2015 in Pakistan Mulsim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) previous government.
The inaugural session of the National Assembly will be held on August 13 in which newly elected members will take oath of their office followed by the elections for speaker, deputy speaker, and the leader of the House.
