Political prisoners being subjected to punishment: Geelani

SRINAGAR: Chairman All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Geelani has said that the puppet administration is subjecting political prisoners to political reprisal and detaining them in jails on behalf of preventive detention.

Geelani said “The detainees are being provided with sub-standard food, and medical needs of these detainees within the prison system are being neglected.”

He deplored that both political and criminal detainees were treated with the same yardstick and there was no system of segregation.

The Kashmiri leader expressed concern over the worsening health conditions of Tehreek-e-Huriyet activist Abdur Rehman Tantrey and other detained leaders and activists.“If anything untoward happens to the ailing activist, the puppet administration would be held responsible.”

He denounced the continuous detention of Hurriyet leaders and activists including Mir HafeezUllah, Mohamad Yusuf Falahi, Mohammad Shaban Dar, Raies Ahmad Mir, Master Ali Mohammad, Abdul Ahad Para, Mohammad Amin Ganai, Mushtaq Ahmad Hura, Mohammad Amin Raina.

Geelani said that detainees in Jammu Kashmir jails were being subjected to political vengeance. Bashir Ahmad Sofi, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri, Bashir Ahmad Boya, Ghulam Mohammad Lone, Shakeel Ahmad Yatoo, Shakir Ahmad Mir, Shoukat Ahmad Dar, Abdul Khaliq Regu along with several others were also mentioned by the leader in the list  of political detainees.

Geelani expressed his dismay over the snails-pace process in judiciary regarding the provision of justice and criticised it for being partial,

Syed Ali Geelani said “The judiciary is being used as a tool for the administration and are following and favouring directives from State machinery.”

He also expressed his concern and anguish over the silence maintained by international organizations and the United Nations and said, “They are not taking any serious note of this lawlessness”.
