GUJRANWALA: The Gujranwala Division Commissioner Asadullah Faiz on Tuesday paid a visit to the Central Jail Gujranwala, and inspected the security arrangements and facilities being provided to the prisoners. Reportedly, the jail superintendent Asghar Ali accompanied and briefed him.

The Commissioner further examined tailoring and beautician classes arranged in the female barracks.

He inquired about the attitude of jail staff towards them.

While assessing the newly-constructed Diagnostic Center and Operation Theater of the jail’s hospital, he urged the administration to ensure functioning of the operation theater as soon as possible.

Later, he visited the kitchen to examine cleanliness and food hygiene.

Anti-Corruption arrests former police SI for misplacing FIR records

A team of Anti-Corruption Establishment’s branch in Gujranwala on Tuesday arrested a former police sub-inspector (SI), who was declared a proclaimed offender in corruption, malpractices and misuse of authority cases.

Reportedly, SI Shafqat Ullah, during his posting at the Satellite Town police station, deliberately misplaced records of eight FIRs (first information reports), and was consequently dismissed from the police service.

Later, the police authorities forwarded his case to the Anti-Corruption Establishment for investigating into the matter while he went underground.

Subsequently, he was declared a proclaimed offender by the anti-corruption court.

He was arrested during a raid by the investigating team of the department.

Motorist dies in fatal accident with wheel loader

A motorist was killed on Tuesday in a fatal accident between motorcycle and wheel loader at Alam Chowk in Gujranwala.

Reportedly, 45-year-old Liaquat was travelling on a motorcycle when a speeding wheel loader rammed into him.

He was rushed to the DHQ Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
