ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday was informed by the attorney general that the former chief of army staff General Raheel Sharif did not obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the federal cabinet before leaving for Saudi Arabia to head the Islamic Military Alliance.

During the hearing of a suo motu case regarding dual nationality of civil servants and judges, the top court was told that the General Headquarters (GHQ) and the Ministry of Defence granted NOC to the former army chief.

“As per law, it is required for the NOC to be approved by the federal cabinet,” Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan told the three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar.

To this, the court ordered authorities to place the matter of Sharif’s appointment as the head of the alliance before the federal cabinet for a regular approval or disapproval.

Moreover, the CJP also said former ISI director general Lt Gen Ahmad Shuja Pashaha has informed in his reply that he is currently unemployed.
