Kite flying continues in Rawalpindi despite ban

RAWALPINDI: Kite flying is continuing in the city despite the ban imposed on the activity.

Kites can be seen on the sky in different localities of the city including Waris Khan, Naz Cinema, College Road, Umer Road, Dhoke Khaba, Dhoke Elahi Bukush, Nadeem Colony, Javed Colony and Chaman Zar.

Zia, a resident of Shamsabad said that shopkeepers having huge stocks of kites of all colours and designs and other stuff including threads and strings used in kite flying were openly selling them, alleging that no official had yet taken notice of it.

Parents were worried, as it was a dangerous activity.

CPO Israr Ahmed Khan said strict action would be taken against kite flying adding that no one would be allowed to violate the rule of law.

He said that the ban on kite flying was being strictly implemented.

He also said that Station House Officers would be responsible for kite flying in their beats.

He directed the policemen to launch action against the violators without any discrimination.

Tinted-glass vehicles: On the special directives of Regional Police Officer Muhammad Waisal Fakhar Sultan Raja, the city traffic police has launched a grand operation against tinted glass vehicles.

Special squads have been constituted to remove the tinted glasses. Tickets would be awarded to the violators while the vehicles would also be impounded at police stations.

In a statement, Chief Traffic Officer Yousaf Ali Shahid said that a comprehensive campaign had been launched against vehicles having tinted glasses, terming it a security risk.

He directed all the wardens, beat in charge, sector in charge and Deputy Police Officers (DSPs) to take strict action and remove tinted glasses from vehicles without any distinction.

He said no one would be allowed to violate the rule of law adding that the campaign would be made effective and result-oriented.

The CTO said that special campaigns were launched in the past by the traffic police to educate road-users especially motorists about the observance of traffic rules which were for their own safety.

Awareness campaign in Islamabad: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has launched a 10-day awareness campaign to enhance knowledge among the citizens.

Senior Superintendent of Police ITP, Malik Matloob Ahmad, said the campaign was launched on the directives of the IGP Islamabad and aimed to strengthen the traffic discipline and protect the lives and property of citizens.

He further said the department had also deployed extra staff at various intersections, chowks and highways for the purpose.

The SSP said road safety workshops were being arranged in government as well as private organisations and educational institutions to make the road-users aware of the various traffic rules.

About the performance of the capital traffic cops, he appreciated the efforts of the ITP for ensuring road discipline in the city and hoped for its further improved performance in future.

The SSP Traffic also appreciated the one-window licence system and said this system also was helping enable citizens to complete bank payments, NADRA verification, data entry and medical certification services at one counter.

Furthermore the ITP is introducing a new online system for licence renewal in the capital.
