HYDERABAD: The All Sindh Lady Health Workers and Employees Union (ASLHWEU) warned to launch a protest for an indefinite period of time, if the demands, including payment of remuneration to the lady health workers (LWHs) who had performed election duties at polling stations, were not met within 15 days, according to the statement issued by the ASLHWEU Chairperson Haleeman Leghari Zulqarnain on Sunday.
Reportedly, the union further threatened to boycott all programmes of the health department.
Zulqarnain claimed that more than 24,000 LWHs of Sindh were deprived of their basic rights, including service structure, payment of salaries through treasury, payment of outstanding dues and remuneration of election duties in the recent general elections.
She said that LWHs had been posted for duties in every official programme, but were not paid salaries even on the occasions of Eid.
“Two of the ailing LHWs died while performing their duty during elections,” she said, adding if their demands were not addressed within 15 days, they would stage a sit-in in Karachi.
