GUJRANWALA: The District and Sessions Judge Ms Humaira Muzafar issued a temporary restraining order on Monday to halt the operation against illegal constructions to vacate 247-Kanal land, over a writ petition filed by the occupiers.

Reportedly, the land had been acquired by the municipal corporation to construct a zoo, but over 116-kanal of land was sold by influential traders and landlords.

Earlier, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) completed the investigation into the matter, which followed directives to demolish the illegal buildings.

The Gujranwala police deployed a large contingent of personnel at the site ahead of demolition process that initiated on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, the district court has ordered the district administration and the occupiers to appear before the court on August 9.

Later, the Commissioner Asadullah Faiz visited the site and said that under the directives of NAB, the district administration had successfully vacated 80 percent of the commercial land from the occupiers, and the remaining area would be recovered after the writ petition is discharged by the court.

Two people die as car plunges into canal

Two people died on Monday when their car ploughed through the roadside and plunged into a canal near Theri Sansi area of Gujranwala.

Reportedly, 36-year-old Imran and 24-year-ols Abid were travelling on a Prado car when suddenly it went out-of-control and fell into a canal. Resultantly, both of them died on the spot.

FIA arrests 11 human traffickers

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) teams on Monday arrested 11 suspects for their alleged involvement in human trafficking.

Reportedly, the FIA teams raided on their hideouts in Wazirabad, Kamoki and Sialkot, and subsequently arrested Jawad Hassan, Muhammad Anayat, Salman, Aurangzeb, Shahzada Khurram, Muhammad Afzal, Muhammad Zulifqar and Muhammad Faisal.

According to FIA, they sent people to the European countries illegally, and were wanted to FIA in various crimes.

Anti-corruption dept arrests employee for taking bribe

The anti-corruption department on Monday nabbed a government employee red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a citizen.

Reportedly, a citizen Tayyab filed an application with the anti-corruption accusing the officer of the industries department Muhammad Asif of demanding a bribe for issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

Meanwhile, the anti-corruption department raided on his office, and caught him red-handed.
