The Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT) continues to attract thousands of potential students into its highly competitive academic programmes.
Over 12,400 students registered for the PUCIT entrance test for admission to the undergraduate degree programmes offered by the college on 567 merit based seats. This means that the college will admit one out of every 22 students who have shown interest in getting admission at PUCIT. The test was conducted in four shifts in the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education examination halls on Sunday.
The results were uploaded to the PUCIT website before midnight.
The answer sheets were graded through an indigenously developed automated system consisting of high-speed scanners and state-of-the-art software that uses smart computer vision and image processing algorithms to detect correct answers.
PUCIT Principal Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar said, “The system produces in individualised answer sheets for the candidates containing their name, roll number, seat number, hall number, etc. It has matured over the past four years and produces no errors. The primary purpose of developing the system was to add to the transparency and efficiency that the college has yearned for over the past decade.”
The college is helping other academic units of the University of the Punjab in this regard and is ready to help other organisations for the same purpose.
Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar further said that this system would soon be integrated into PUCIT’s existing indigenously developed open-source Campus Management Solutions software to complete the full “admission to graduation” system.
