Two children among three die in separate road accidents

KHAIRPUR: A child and a youth died on Sunday in separate road accidents in Pano Akil and Baberloi tehsils of Khairpur district.

Reportedly, a speedy car rammed into a motorist at Baiji Chowk, killing a youth Noor Muhammad on the spot, and managed to flee from the scene.

His body was shifted to the Pano Akil Hospital for autopsy, and later handed over to his relatives.

The area police lodged a case against an unidentified driver.

Meanwhile, a three-year-old Elfi Sheedi died on the spot and three other people sustained severe injuries when a speedy rickshaw turned turtle near Baberloi bypass on National Highway.

The deceased’s body and injured were shifted to the Sukkur Hospital for medical attention.

SSP orders arrest of SHO, head muharrar for taking bribe

Agra police station house officer (SHO) Muhammad Ali Bhutto and head muharrar Qurban Ali Shahani were suspended and arrested on Sunday for taking bribes from drug dealers in Khairpur.

Reportedly, the Khairpur SSP Fida Hussain Mastoi took a notice of media reports informing that the SHO Bhutto and muharrar Shahani had been receiving bribes from drug dealers.

Meanwhile, the SSP ordered to suspend and arrest both of them, and conduct an inquiry into the matter.

SALU to plant 1,400 trees

The Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) in Khairpur on Sunday prepared a schedule of programmes to celebrate the Independence Day (Aug14) with national zeal and fervour.

Reportedly, the SALU representative informed that the university would inaugurate ‘The Smart University Project’ on Aug 14 in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission in Islamabad.

Besides, the university will plant 1,400 saplings within the campus premises, in collaboration with the Habib Bank (Pvt) Limited.

Moreover, the vice-chancellor Prof Dr Parveen Shah will preside over the Independence Day Flag hoisting ceremony and patriotic celebration in which students of the Model School of the university will perform national and folk songs.

Regarding preparation of the programmes, a team led by pro-vice-chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Yousaf Khushk will finalise the arrangements.

The HEC Chairman is expected to attend the ceremonies to be conducted by SALU on the Independence Day.

Man dies due to Gastro-intestinal disease in Khairpur

A patient suffering from a gastro-intestinal illness died on Sunday in the Civil Hospital of Khairpur.

According to the hospital sources, Muhammad Chuttal, a resident of Irshad Ali Bhurgari village, was admitted to the hospital a day before.

The body was handed over to his relatives after medico-legal formalities were completed.

A significant rise has been observed in gastro-intestinal infections in Nara subdivision.

Meanwhile, the residents of the area appealed to the administrative authorities to sent teams of doctors to their villages for treatment.
