ISLAMABAD: Millions of rupees collected from candidates for recruitment in the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) have been embezzled.

According to details, the vacancies on different posts were advertised in newspapers and money was also collected from jobless candidates but the process could not be completed.

IESCO had recruited some 1,900 employees, including 87 officials last year and recruitment process was completed through a company. Only recruitment of some 87 officials was completed.

IESCO sources said that there is a severe shortage of employees and exiting staff has to work overtime.

On the other hand, millions of rupees are being collected every month on the pretext of Roshni Company.

Sources added that Roshni Company is owned by the relatives of top officials of IESCO. The contacts are being awarded to it and these officials receive millions of rupees every month as extortion. The officials have no concern with the performance and output of distribution companies.
