A bunch of ballot papers for the NA-247 with stamp marks on the Pakistan Peoples Party candidate in the constituency were found dumped in a school in Gizri area of the city on Thursday, said Omar Quraishi, the media consultant for PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto.
In a tweet posted on his account, he said, “Look what the first day of school at this government school in Karachi’s Gizri area turned up. The children there found ballot papers in their desks, all had votes for the PPP candidate from NA 247. They were found eight days after the Election because the school was closed till now.”
PPP Karachi Division president Saeed Ghani also held a press conference where he said that the party’s electoral symbol arrow was stamped on all the ballot papers found from the school.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Arif Alvi was declared successful from the constituency, securing 91,020 votes in the July 25 election. PPP candidate Abdul Aziz Memon received just 19,552 votes.
Last week, stamped ballot papers were recovered from a dumpster in Karachi’s Qayyumabad area. The ballot papers were discarded from polling stations in NA-241 and PS-160 constituencies.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice of the incidents. ECP spokesperson Altaf Khan said strict measures will be taken against those found responsible for these incidents.
