ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday resumed the hearing of a suo moto case of the accumulation of rainwater at newly constructed Islamabad International Airport.

Previously, the SC took the suo moto notice after a video of accumulated water went viral of social media.

As the session, which was presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, began the additional attorney general (AAG) told the court that the water accumulated in the parking and not in the boarding counter.

To this, CJP responded that the parking area is also a part of the airport. He further added that the court has to look for the structure of the building rather than its design.

The apex court then asked about the cost of the newly formed airport. To which the Civil Aviation Agency officials informed the court that the estimated cost was Rs37 billion while till the completion of the project, it exceeded to Rs106 billion.

Justice Nisar then remarked that no one will take the responsibility of the rise in cost, however, he added that a lot of work is still underway.

The SC then directed the relevant authorities to look into the infrastructure of the building and to make required changes in the design or structure.

During the session, Justice Nisar also observed that it is being said that Chaudhry Muneer has constructed the new airport. The fact is, CJP remarked, that Muneer has only contributed to runway construction only and no one should scandalize the situation without any reason. With these remarked SC concluded the proceedings.
